Artist Biography

Lauren Cox is a photographer and designer currently based outside of Buffalo, NY. Born in Southern California and raised in Western New York, Lauren’s experiences across the American landscape have informed her perspectives and her artistic practice. Influenced by her upbringing around industry and agriculture, Lauren’s work often explores social dichotomies in the rural context, including those of class, environment, gender, semiotics, and mortality.

Lauren graduated with her BFA in Graphic Design at SUNY Buffalo State College in May 2021. In her time as a student, Lauren has received honors including the Dr. Margaret E. Bacon Best of Studio Award for Graphic Design and the Hyatt’s Award for Excellence, in addition to having her work shown at an Art and Design Department student exhibition as well as those put on by the college’s Visual Arts Board. She had her first solo exhibition, C'est la Mort, in November 2020.
